The usual suspects, hallways, utility rooms and the downstairs toilet can often be problematic to tackle! Although they are functional spaces there are plenty of ways, we can make them more attractive.
The Hallway
If your hallway is anything like mine it’s full of shoes, bags, coats and the like. Storage is key in the hallway, if you’re lucky enough to have a cupboard under the stairs hang coat hooks or pop in some cheap shoe racks and maybe a big basket for hats, gloves and scarves.
If the budget allows built-in drawers are great for utilising space understairs.
If you have a long and narrow hallway a large wall hung mirror is a great idea for reflecting natural light and brightening the space, also creating the illusion of a larger space. How about painting the front door in an unexpected colour both inside and out?
Installing some simple paneling is a great idea for a hallway space. Painted in a dark colour , it’s durable and easy to touch up after the inevitable scrapes in such a high traffic area. You could add interest with some bright framed prints, a gallery wall of family photos or go for bold paint on the walls.
Space permitting, I would recommend a radiator cover, or a slim console table to display a few accessories to add personality.
Maybe a nice bowl for your keys or hang a high-level shelf with trailing plants and some interesting art, candles or ornaments.
The Downstairs WC
This is one of the easiest and most fun rooms to decorate! It’s usually small and it’s a room we don’t tend to spend too much time in so it’s the perfect space to go bold! Take the opportunity to go bold with a bright paint, colour drenching or a great statement wallpapaper!
